The United Nations Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021-2030) is a global collaboration, aligned with the last ten years of the Sustainable Development Goals, that brings together governments, civil society, international agencies, professionals, academia, the media, and the private sector to improve the lives of older people, their families, and the communities in which they live.

Populations around the world are ageing at a quicker rate than in the past, and this demographic transformation will affect societies at large. Already, there are over 1 billion individuals aged 60 and up, with the majority living in low- and middle-income nations. Many people lack access to even the most basic materials required for a meaningful and dignified life.

In order to foster healthy ageing and improve the lives of older people and their families and communities, the Decade will address four areas of action:
